Exploring Maui: From Mountains to Beaches

Aloha, everyone!

Over Spring Break, Elliot and I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Hawaiian island of Maui. We have actually discussed moving there with its laid-back vibe, gorgeous mountains and beaches, and perfect tropical weather. But we didn’t want to make that decision without visiting, so that’s what we did!

Other than the obvious beauty, the main thing that blew me away was the amount of diverse terrain on the island. Maui isn’t all that big, but it was full of mountains, beaches, jungle, desert, and plains. We managed to visit a good portion of the island in our week there.Β Follow our adventure below!

Day 1: Driving to Hana

On our first day on the island, we took the road to Hana, which is known for its gorgeous views. We stopped often to take a look.

Once there, we discovered a couple of beaches to hangout during the day. Every beach is so different! I love all the trees since there’s always a little shade.

Day 2: Makena Beach

For our second day on the island, we found Makena Beach, also known as “Big Beach” since it’s much bigger than the other beaches we found on the island. This place was perfect. The water was blue and crystal clear. The beach was big enough so it didn’t feel crowded. There were some rough waves when we were there which turned into an adventure in itself!

Day 3: Up on Haleakala

The highest point on Maui is Mt. Haleakala, which is over 10,000 feet in elevation. You are literally above the clouds! This was such a different experience from our Blue Ridge Mountains.Β You can see pretty much the whole island from up there.

We also got to see the Haleakala Crater, which was Elliot’s favorite part. I’ve never seen anything like this! It was so vast and colorful.

After exploring, we spend the afternoon back at Makena Beach. This time we got to see the gorgeous sunset.
